Fashion Icons

With the excitement of fashion week over it makes you think how important style and fashion is. Women over the world and throughout time have used fashion as a creative and fun way to express themselves. Over time what women choose to wear and what is seen as "on-trend" has changed dramatically.

1960's

The 1960's were well known for developing 'signature style' amongst the 'it girls'. One of whom was Twiggy; most well-known for her pixie hair cut, monochrome eye makeup and 'mod' style. She stretched the fashion limits in the 60's with her daring and refreshing taste.

Other 60's fashion icons include Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Edie Sedgwick and Brigitte Bardot.

1970's

1970's fashion continued along the lines of the 60's with individualism being a key aim for many women. Cher was a regular household name in the 1970s', having realised 10 albums in the decade. She dared to be different and experimented with every trend that the 60's had to offer.

Other 70's fashion icons include Diane Von Furstenburg, Joni Mitchell, Diana Ross and Debbie Harry.

1980's

The 1980's was one of the most experimental times, in terms of fashion, in our history. This time saw the rise of Madonna and Michael Jackson. In the 80's Boy George was a key icon. He saw fashion as art and that certainly showed through his image.

Other 80's fashion icons include Princess Diana, Joan Collins, Bananarama and Brooke Shields.

1990's

From Cindy Crawford to Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, the 1990's saw the rise of the supermodels. These women became extremely influential fashion icons to every female in the 90's. Although, sometimes this fashion had its consequences, like when Naomi Campbell fell on the Vivienne Westwood catwalk in sky-high platforms.

Other fashion icons of the 90's include Kate Moss, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Love and Drew Barrymore.

(We just had to include a picture...)

2000's (the noughties)

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been a big fashion influence of the 2000's. These child stars became a front-row favourite amongst many designers, having launched their own prestige label- 'The Row'. They take a chance with their style, yet still manage to look stylish no matter what they wear.

Other fashion icons of the noughties include Alexa Chung, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica-Parker.

5 Fresh Takes on Layers for Spring

It gets to this time of year and the weather is always changing from fairly mild to breezy and cold within a single day. For this reason, layering is essential for the Spring time.

1) Stylish and Classy- Jumper-shirt

This look with a shirt layered under a jumper is a smart way to layer for spring because if you get too warm, take the jumper off and you still look classy and smart. But, if not it is still an elegant layered look.

2) A Cute Pairing- The Jumper Dress

If you are struggling to make layering look feminine and fashion-forward then take a note of this look. Layer your favourite jumper under a cute slip dress or pinafore for a unique and versatile look that can be styled differently each time.

3) Keep warm- A Chunky Scarf

Put your own twist on a classic look by simply layering a scarf over your favourite outfit. This look is so easy to put together if you're in a rush but is oh-so-cosy for those blustery Spring days.

4) Classic and Versatile- The Waistcoat

Need to look office ready whilst layering too? Why not pair a thick sleeveless waistcoat for a versatile layer that adds dimension and intrigue to simple work wear.

5) A New One- The Coatigan

When it is too warm for coats we have only few options- and the newly popular coatigan is one. This trend has only been on the scene for a few seasons but we love the oversized -but lightweight look of a coatigan.

Celebrities usually get it right when they’re on the red carpet or at an event. But there have been some occasions where they have just got it completely wrong! We’re going to take a throwback look at some of the most iconic fashion faux pas.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake – Denim Overload

I quite like a bit of double denim every now and again, but JT and Britney took it way too far at the 2001 American Music Awards. Not only were their outfits denim, but they accessorised with more denim – not that they needed it!

They must have done something right for Katy Perry and Riff Raff to then copy the look at the MTV VMA’s in 2014 as a tribute! Britney said Just when I thought the denim dress had retired....you bring it back! You looked amazing tonight bb ;)” – Britney, no-one is going to forget this!!

Lady Gaga – Meat Dress
Even though she’s vegan, she still decided to wear a dress made 100% from meat – along with meaty accessories. That’s right, Gaga wore a meat dress to the 2010 MTV VMA’s which I’m sure you’ll remember! So you might be wondering what would have happened to the dress – was it thrown away, was the meat eaten? Well in fact, Gaga gave her outfit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who put it on display for their Women Who Rock exhibition. Not the most hygienic of dresses to store!

Kim Kardashian – Popping Trousers
When Paris Fashion Week comes around, you expect glitz and glamour. For Kim K, she decided to go for a more casual look with a pair of 90’s Adidas popping trousers in Paris last year. I guess it wasn’t all casual; she did dress it up with a pair of fish nets and a lace bodysuit! She tried to bring the 90’s trousers, but it didn’t quite catch on!

Madonna – Cone Bra Corset
While we’re talking about some of the most iconic celebrity outfits, we couldn’t miss out Madonna’s Jean Paul Gaultier corset from her 90’s Blonde Ambition Tour. This isn’t the most feminine or flattering look but Madonna can somehow get away with it.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our throwback of some of the celebrities most iconic moments!

Off-Duty Street Style

We often see celebrities all glammed up on the red carpet, but during the day, they have a glam yet casual style. Street style is always so interesting as we see personal style in a completely different way to on the red carpet.

The Kardashians

Now, I'm sure as you're all aware the Kardashian and Jenner sisters have become modern fashion role-models for many. So, it is always interesting to see their personal style when out and about in Los Angeles. Here, Kim and Khloe have chosen strappy black maxi dresses and sandals for an effortless look. Kendall, however, has chosen floaty patterned palazzo trousers and a pair of aviators for an off-duty appearance.

Florence Welch

Florence Welch seems to have gone for a 70's inspired look whilst wandering the streets of London. Florence is known for pushing her style limits and taking a chance with her outfit choices, as shown here, she pairs a patterned midi with a fur coat and hot pink shirt.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra was spotted in this cute co-ordinate, tan heels and oversized aviators whilst in Rio De Janeiro. This striped co-ord looked so chic and classy yet is an easy off-duty look to style.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington always looks flawless in whatever she chooses to wear. Recently, Rosie was spotted looking so chic and stylish. She paired Paige's Vintage Julia Felice jeans seamed with uneven hem with neck scarf, Gucci leather belt, black tank top and heeled sandals for a true classy yet casual feel. We love the choice of Ray-Bans too.

Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts, actress, was pictured at NYFW 17 wearing this bright floral tiered hem mini dress. She paired this with a simple black heel, clutch and velvet jacket.

Sarah Jessica-Parker

Oh, SJP, you really do know just how to dress exactly like Carrie Bradshaw. Here, Sarah is pictured wearing the colour block trend. Her rouge ruffled lace shirt, hot pink trouser combo is seriously SITC.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham wore something a little different whilst presenting her line's pre-autumn 2017 collection in New York. VB paired this rose midi with striped relaxed fit shirt and white mules for a striking but stunning pink look.

Today We Talk Tweed

So, what did we all think of Cara Delevingne’s look for the trailer viewing party of her upcoming film "Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets"? Well we for one, loved it. Wearing an Alexandre Vauthier Spring 17 Couture Collection tweed suit, not only did she look stylish and smart, but she bought a touch of class to the event that took place on Monday night.

Not only was she wearing the tweed, but it was a suit. I think a lot of people are afraid to wear suits as they are seen as a “man’s thing”. But Cara has really shown us ladies how to work it and pull off this style. This piece says a lot on its own, so Cara didn’t need many accessories; a pair of black heels was enough and finished the look off perfectly!

Not only have we spotted Cara in tweed but we’ve also seen Kate Middleton wearing it too. Kate is always dressed immaculately, but when you’re married to a Prince, I guess you have to be! Wearing a Chanel tweed dress, she looked effortlessly chic and really put tweed back in the spotlight.

You can get the look! Our Elettra tweed suit is picture-perfect and will be great for your summer wardrobe. Available from early May, you can shop the look at caviarstatus.com. We recommend minimal jewellery and, depending on the occasion, heels or flats will work well.

Tweed is a timeless classic that you can always rely on.

A Day at the Races

Forget Paris Fashion Week, Royal Ascot is just as much of a fashion event. With such a demanding dress code, we know how hard it can sometimes be to get the outfit choice just right. And with Royal Ascot just around the corner, we wanted to give you a guide of what would be perfect to wear this year for the Royal Meeting.

Looking at our SS17 collection, we have picked out some great pieces for you!

Our Nerina white lace dress is a great, modest look still keeping a stylish and sophisticated feel. This look is perfectly paired with heels, a clutch bag and hat for an elegant look for your day at the races.

Secondly, Royal Ascot has recently announced in their style guide that this year they welcome the jumpsuit to be worn for the Royal Enclosure. This is a great chance to wear our Luciana jumpsuit to bring a bit of chic and class to the event…show them why they bought back the jumpsuit!

As you can see on the model, you don’t need many accessories for this piece as the jumpsuit itself makes a statement. You can wear a pair of gold strappy heels and a hat, a must for Royal Ascot!

If you are looking to inject a bit of colour, our Annalisa maxi dress would be a perfect look for this spring/summer event. With bright colours and bold prints, you will be sure to make a statement and be the talk of the town! Try pairing with a pair of strappy heels to keep the graceful look.

Well, we hope this has given you some inspiration for your day out at the races! Just remember, avoid strapless dresses, midriffs and shorts (or you might not be let in)
Our races ready collection will be available to buy from the beginning of May – just in time for Royal Ascot! Visit us at www.caviarstatus.com.

Style Inspiration: Celebrities Wearing Our Trends

Spring Summer can be a difficult time for anyone to decide what clothing to wear; one minute the sun is shining and it is hot outside and the next a breeze comes along and it's quite chilly. For this reason, I often find looking for style inspiration at this time of year most interesting. Our Spring Summer trends are not only exclusive to Caviar Status, but many celebrities also have chosen to dress in a similar way.

1) Pink Passion

Lily Collins chose a signature pink gown for the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet. This dusty rose Zuhair Murad maxi dress looked so delicate and summery.

2) Feminine Florals

Jourdan Dunn chose a floral Dolce and Gabbana maxi for the amfAR Gala in New York. This floor-sweeping bold maxi dress with tiered hem accentuated her figure perfectly on the red carpet.

3) The Summer Trench

Jessica Alba: spotted wearing a peach toned trench coat whilst wandering the streets of New York. She chooses to style her outfit wearing navy wide-leg trousers, a simple clean white top and metallic cross body bag.

4) White Elegance

Sienna Miller is pictured wearing a dress from the Ralph Lauren Collection to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. She accessorizes this crisp blazer-style midi dress with minimal gold jewellery and beige clutch, heels and a pair of mirrored sunglasses for this fresh daytime look.

5) Romantic Ruffles

Pictured: Olivia Culpo slipped in ruffled floaty midi for the Spring. The flared sleeve and ruffle detail on the chest is much like the details on our Lalia floral midi dress.

6) Maxi Moments

Vanessa Hudgens spotted out and about in Los Angeles wearing this ditsy ombré maxi dress. Hudgens has channelled the bohemian spirit with wavy centre-parted hair and flat sandals. Get the look with our Rosella maxi skirt.

7) Keep It Khaki

Supermodel Kendall Jenner gives us off-duty model style with this khaki-fur combination. Her high-waist trousers paired with Chanel kitten heels, a brown cropped fur jacket and Krewe sunglasses is the perfect combination between laid-back and elegant.

8) Lace Days

The Duchess of Cambridge steps out in this burgundy Dolce & Gabbana guipure midi dress to greet Chinese President Xi Jinping, his wife, and actor Jackie Chan. Kate looked sophisticated and classy, as usual, in this high-necked gown.

The Powder Purple Trench

After such a lovely weekend down here in Bournemouth, and throughout the rest of the UK, now is the perfect time to purchase your new summer jacket. With such nice weather, it’s hard to know what to wear – it’s too hot for a winter coat, but not hot enough to leave the house with no cover-up at all! The style that never goes out of fashion is the trench coat and is perfect for right now.

Here are some of our favourite style tips and what’s perfect to pair it with:

Firstly, we love this all white look with our purple trench. The pastel colour against the white shows the true colour of Spring and Summer and is perfect for your wardrobe. This look can be dressed up or down for any occasion – you can go for a more casual/day look with some sandals or you can dress the look up like our stylist has with some heels for our shoot.

Why not pair this classic piece with our Lalia black floral dress. This would be more of an evening look which is ideal for a night out in the city. Finish the look with heels and a black clutch bag, you will be set to hit the city.

Lastly, we’ll take a look at some essential accessories that would look great with this look. Coming into summer, sunglasses are a must (hopefully, if the weather stays nice)! Aviators are a classic, and go well with any look. Hats also make a great statement for a casual day look – try adding a fedora hat for that extra glamorous look.

Milan Fashion Week: Stand Out Moments

Every September and February, Fashion Week is all over the headlines featuring unique outfits, well-known socialites and exclusive events.

The Italian city of Milan is notorious for outrageous catwalks and stand-out antics from designers and this year was no exception; embellished pyjamas, fur-lined loafers and supermodels from past and present were some of the stand out moments.

1) Angela Missoni

Angela Missoni and her models strutted the catwalk wearing pink hats at Milan Fashion Week. At the end of the show Angela took to the microphone and gave a speech about female empowerment stating: "Let's show the world that the fashion community is united and fearless."

2) Gucci's fur-lined mule loafers

Kangaroo fur-lined loafers are making a comeback. We first saw them briefly in the Autumn of 2015. However, they only took off in the designer world. This season, the love it/hate it flat by Gucci has taken both the catwalk and high-street by storm with many celebrities such as Gigi Hadid (pictured above) and Alexa Chung gracing the statement shoe.

3) Pyjama's were featured on the Catwalk

Embellished, silk nightwear seemed to be everywhere this season. Dolce & Gabbana (pictured above), Prada and Gucci all took inspiration and chose pyjama-style outfits for the runway.

4) Supermodels: Past & Present.

Versace was full of surprises; with supermodels Naomi Campbell and Doutzen Kroes to Carmen Kass and Adriana Lima taking the Catwalk. One of the stand-out moments was when Lauren Hutton walked the runway alongside Gigi Hadid- and was wearing that Bottega clutch bag she wore in "American Gigolo".

5) Dolce & Gabbana Featured Food

Milan fashion week debuted something a little different this year. Food was the feature; pasta crowns, noodle-printed dresses and pizza motifs all graced the runway. Dolce & Gabbana managed to combine food and fashion in a fun and creative form.
